New Hair: Senegalese Twists

I'm sort of predictable when it comes to my hair, meaning it's a rarity that I try new things. But everyone needs to change things up every once in awhile so I figured I was long overdue for one. Since being natural I've been wearing my hair curly versus straight and lately between battling frizz and just plain laziness I haven't really felt like doing much to it. I haven't really tried many protective styles other than that weave that didn't go so well, so two weeks ago I made a spontaneous decision to get twists.

The last time I had braids was literally when I was like 12 lol. I knew I didn't really want braids which is why I decided to go with Senegalese Twists which like braids can be done in a variety of sizes and styles. I've only had them for about two weeks now and I like them so far and have gotten tons of compliments. I haven't decided how long I plan to keep them just yet but knowing me it won't be very long, I'll probably have them out before the new year which is why I decided to go ahead and share a few pics! It's definitely a low maintenance type of style and my only venture now is trying to find cute ways to wear them ^_^

  4. I absolutely love your hair. I normally wear sew ins but was looking for something different. When I did my research, the twist you are wearing was the only thing that I found that is amazing! I live in Atlanta and would like my hair exactly like that. Do you mind sharing what salon. I live in Norcross.

    1. I only kept them for about 3 weeks, my hair texture is sort of fine so the twists started slipping in the back.

  11. Hi, I am going to visit Top Notch Braiding today based on your photos. I spoke with Miriam and she seemed very nice and knowledgeable. I usually get my braids done in St. Petersburg, FL as the lady down there can do my hair by herself start to finish in 9 hrs and it is impeccable. Plus, the price is super low which is important to me b/c I have SO much hair. I had my hair done twice in Atlanta both Senegalese twists and they were horrible! They were so bad I took them out immediately. I am really hoping that Top Notch Braiding will be my new place! Question: How long did you get your braids? Mid back/ Long? Did Miriam do the Micro or Medium size on you?

    1. Hi Kaylah!

Sorry to hear about your horrible experience at the other places! The length of the twists were at the center of my back and I believe they are the mid-size twists. If you can, show her a photo of mine and I'm sure she will know. I'd love to see and hear about your experience, be sure to email me photos!!! and let me know how it goes! I'm sure you will love them. Also, I remember her having a book of styles she has done at the shop so be sure to take a look as you may see the size/style you want there! Hope to talk to you soon!

  12. Odara, I really enjoyed my consultation today. Mariam was very nice and VERY knowledgeable. I say this because some people will try to just wrap the xtra hair aroudn the roots, but my hair is soft and the twist needs to be started with a braid. We talked length, color, styles, size, and # of hours it would take. I took a friend with me and she was so impressed that she is going to get her hair done with me this Sunday. I will keep you posted on how it goes and I will post pictures of how it looks. Note: Mariam looked at my hair and was like.. YEP.. you have a LOT of hair... It's going to loo great! I love the fact that my hair did not change her attitude towards me. Some people huff b/c they don't want to deal.
